  • Overview

     

    We are looking for a passionate and gifted storyteller who has a proven track record of bringing brands to life with words – and in nurturing and mentoring other writers to do the same.  The Creative Copywriting Manager will report the Chief Marketing Officer and will work with senior management to establish and set the standard of writing at Scentsy – appropriately aligned with Scentsy’s mission, values, personality and tone of voice.  In addition, the manager will oversee and develop a small team of writers to deliver copy that represents and strengthens the Scentsy brand.

     

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Ensure the Creative Copy output is aligned with Scentsy’s brand strategy, mission, values, personality, tone of voice in ways that strengthen our brand among Consultants and consumers
    • Work with Senior Management to determine and set a clear standard of quality and excellence for our writing and storytelling
    • Develop and nurture a team of copywriters competent and capable of delivering on the above two bullet points
    • Oversee the workflows and workloads of the team, ensuring that work is delivered efficiently, on schedule, and at the quality standard established

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties, Responsibilities & Expectations:

    • Build, develop, nurture and lead a team of writers whose skills and competencies are aligned with Scentsy’s creative writing and storytelling needs
    • Lead by example - be willing to roll up your sleeves and demonstrate the power of great writing to the team and the organization
    • Provide active mentoring and development in the craft of writing – among the team and across the organization
    • Create a team environment that is healthy and facilitates great creative output, while aligned with achieving business objectives and schedule/budget realities
    • Ensure that writers are fully contextualized and set up for success to deliver work that is on-strategy, on-brand, on-voice and appropriately considers both business and Consultant context
    • Work with management to develop clear style guides and/or messaging platforms that provide guidance around brand mission, values, personality, tone of voice, messaging etc.
    • Ensure workflows (people, processes and systems) are efficient and lead to great work
    • Actively manage the workloads and workflow of the team, ensuring quality work is being delivered on time, and that team productivity is optimized at both the individual and group levels.
    • Work collaboratively with other Managers and teams to effectively manage timelines and resources as well as maintain open lines of communication
    • Effectively manage the team from an administrative perspective (performance evaluations; hiring; firing; promotions; disciplinary actions; operating budgets and other administrative and employee related functions)

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, creative writing, communications, marketing, or related discipline - Master’s degree preferred
    • 6 years of professional writing experience and 4 years of experience in management of people and creative teams

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Fun, passionate and aligned with Scentsy mission, values and culture
    • Deep, proven understanding of the craft of writing and storytelling (ideally applied to corporate branding and marketing)
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, inspire and nurture employees within a creative environment – maximizing and effectively balancing productivity; quality and employee happiness/job satisfaction
    • Proven ability to effectively manage workflows and workloads of a copy team within a creative environment
    • Ability to ensure processes and systems are set up for efficient workflow management.
    • Strong and creative critical thinker and motivated problem solver – able to recognize and articulate a problem, identify root cause, and then proactively put a plan in place to resolve/improve things for the team and the organization
    • STRONG collaboration skills… this role will need seamless teamwork with other teams across the company
    • Working knowledge of great writing/storytelling across a variety of print and digital mediums (e.g. web; catalogs; brochures; flyers; social media; blogs; promotional videos; training etc.)
    • Ability to think strategically AND execute in the trenches
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment
